Intimate Meeting of Irans Ambassador with Few surviving Polish individuals who sought refuge in Iran during World War II”

Dr. Issa Kameli, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Poland, had an intimate and friendly meeting with few surviving Polish individuals who sought refuge in Iran during World War II, known as “The Kids of Isfahan” at his official residence.

This meeting was a strong reminder of the historical and invaluable memory of Iranian hospitality towards over 120,000 Polish refugees during WWII, an event recognised as a "pillar of relations" between the two nations.

Commemorating the Polish refugees and the warm welcome they received from the Iranian people, the Ambassador stated:

"Hospitality and kindness are deeply rooted in the ancient Iranian culture. This spirit of altruism and humanity was not a temporary act, but a manifestation of the rich culture and thousands of years of Iranian civilisation, which has always empathised with the suffering and the displaced, even in the harshest conditions. The reception of our Polish brothers and sisters during that difficult era is a living testament to the authenticity of this culture and the deeply ingrained nature of philanthropy within the fabric of Iranian identity."

During the meeting, the Polish survivors also recounted their memories from their time in Iran. While thanking the Iranians for their warm reception and open arms, especially in host cities including Isfahan and Bandar-e Anzali, they emphasised their lasting gratitude for this hospitality and their sweet memories of life in Iran.

The participants in this gathering agreed on the importance of accurately documenting these memories and experiences and transferring them to future generations to preserve this cultural legacy, which forms a vital part of the shared history of the two countries.
